Helping People Live Pain Free

Perpetuating Factors

We are consistently able to reduce or even eliminate pain for patients with trigger points and myofascial dysfunction. However, in many cases, lasting relief is not possible unless some common "perpetuating factors" are addressed. Perpetuating factors are common occurrences in modern life that affect most of us and reduce the ability of our body to heal itself. Some of these include the following. We are able to help identifiy and make recommendations for reducing the impact of these factors in most cases:

  • Head forward posture
  • Rounded shoulders or upper spine
  • Loss of normal lumbar curvature
  • Lower Limb Length discrepancy (one leg longer than the other)
  • Short upper limbs
  • Morton's foot structure (short first metatarsal bone)
  • Scoliosis
  • Repetitive stress from work related activities
  • Excessive computer use
  • Poor desk/workstation ergonomics
  • Excessive driving
  • Life changing events
  • Depression
  • Type A personality/perfectionist
  • High stress level
Sleep Architecture
  • Inadequate amount of sleep
  • Poor quality of sleep (inability to achieve sufficient deep sleep)
  • Poor sleep posture (sleeping on stomach, excesive flexion of knees or other joints)
  • Low nutrient levels (Vitamin B1, B6, B12, C, D, E)
  • Low mineral levels (Magnesium, Potassium, Calcium, Iron/Ferritin)
  • Underactive thryoid
  • Hormonal changes
